Behind the Price
Each piggy bank begins as a lump of soft clay that is hand-shaped on the pottery wheel, ensuring every piece is truly one of a kind. Once formed, the pieces undergo a natural drying period of approximately three weeks before they are ready for their firing at around 800–900°C. This firing phase, including heating and cooling, takes up to 2-3 full days.
After the ceramic body is complete, the surface decoration can begin. Most designs require four to five layers of hand-applied paint to achieve their depth, character, and durability.
The Golden, Wing, and Divided Collections follow a distinctly different technique. A specialty adhesive is applied to the surface, after which metallic foil is carefully laid and pressed by hand across the entire piece. Any excess foil is removed with a large, soft brush to reveal a clean, luminous finish. The piece is then left to dry for one to three hours before receiving two protective layers of varnish, which require an additional two to three hours for a complete cure.
Each step—from hand-shaping to finishing—reflects the time, precision, and artisanal care embedded in every piece. — Golden Pigs
